Softball Recap: Walla Walla Blue Devils vs. Southridge Suns

Walla Walla had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-15 to make it four. They took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southridge Suns. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Suns this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-1 last Tuesday.

Emily Meliah ?26 was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

As for Southridge, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-8. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the contest before.

On Southridge's side, Avery Garvey made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Garvey has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Southridge let Jadyn Holdren and Orian Hagen run wild. Holdren went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Hagen went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. Those two stolen bases gave Holdren a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Faith Hickman, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Walla Walla will head out on the road to square off against Kennewick at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Devils are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Southridge, they will host Hanford at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Suns' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
