Basketball Recap: Harlingen Piles Up the Points Against San Benito

Harlingen won the last time they faced San Benito and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Harlingen Cardinals claimed a resounding 69-39 win over the San Benito Greyhounds. The Cardinals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 20 points or more this season.

Harlingen can attribute much of their success to Marcus Gutierrez, who posted 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jeremy Bedford, who scored ten points.

Harlingen is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 17 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 26-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.1 points per game. As for San Benito, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-13.

Harlingen will take on Veterans Memorial at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Harlingen knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 18 games -- so hopefully Veterans Memorial likes a good challenge. As for San Benito, they will square off against Hanna at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
