Basketball Recap: Richard Winn Academy Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Bennett Nicholson and Charlie Bonds

Richard Winn Academy lost against Lake Pointe Academy on December 2nd and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Richard Winn Academy Eagles lost to the Lake Pointe Academy Mariners on the road by a 50-36 margin. The Eagles' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Richard Winn Academy had strong showings from Charlie Bonds, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards, and Bennett Nicholson, who posted ten points in addition to five assists and four steals. Nicholson has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Tyndell, who put up five points.

Even though they lost, Richard Winn Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Lake Pointe Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but James Jacobs led the charge by putting up 22 points. Another player making a difference was Stewart Settle, who had 13 points.

Richard Winn Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Lake Pointe Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.

Richard Winn Academy and Midlands STEM Charter will round out the year against one another at at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. After both having extra time off, Lake Pointe Academy and Riverwalk Academy will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Lake Pointe Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.2 points per game this season.
