Basketball Game Preview: Hamilton Yankees vs. Fairfax Lions

Hamilton is 1-9 against Fairfax since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Hamilton Yankees will be playing in front of their home fans against the Fairfax Lions at 6:00 p.m. Hamilton has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Hamilton turned things around against Hoover on Monday. They skirted past the Cardinals 65-62. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Yankees have posted since December 4, 2024.

It was another big night for Michael Gooden, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 24 rebounds. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. Another player making a difference was Vernell Thompson, who posted nine points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Meanwhile, Fairfax ended up a good deal behind Varsity Opponent on Saturday and lost 87-71. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Fairfax's loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Hamilton, their win bumped their record up to 8-11.

Hamilton came out on top in a nail-biter against Fairfax when the teams last played back in January of 2024, sneaking past 59-57. Does Hamilton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Fairfax turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
