Softball Recap: Zephyrhills' Losing Streak Snapped at Five Games

Zephyrhills had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past the Weeki Wachee Hornets 8-1 on Friday. The Bulldogs not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since February 21st.

Hannah Wadyka spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Laila Woolfolk and Melanie Moreno did most of the damage at the plate: Woolfolk scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Moreno scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Hannah Helms also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Zephyrhills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Zephyrhills' record is now 3-8. As for Weeki Wachee, they now have a losing record of 8-9.

Coming up, Zephyrhills will take on Hernando at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Leopards' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Weeki Wachee, they will be playing at home against Crystal River at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
