Southwind extended their home winning streak to seven games dating back to last season thanks to a huge performance from Kelvin Perkins. The Jaguars managed a 48-42 win over the Briarcrest Christian Saints on Thursday with plenty of help from Perkins, who rushed for 97 yards and one score on only eight carries, and also threw for 152 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 81.2% of his passes. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making two total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Southwind, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Jordan Daniels, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

One reason for the win was Southwind's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Charles Sullins, Kaveous Middleton, and Rosevelt Bates, who each picked up one sack apiece. Southwind got some further help from Sullins: he picked up a sack and made four total tackles (4.0 for loss).

When it comes to explaining why Briarcrest Christian lost, don't look at Hudson Tucker. Despite the final result, he threw for 231 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for 71 yards on only nine carries. Tucker is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for four or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jd Donaldson, who picked up 104 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Southwind's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Briarcrest Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southwind will welcome Kirby at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last. As for Briarcrest Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Christian Brothers at 7:00 p.m. on the 3rd. The Saints are facing the Purple Wave at the right time seeing as the Purple Wave are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
