Basketball Recap: South Sumter Comes Up Short

South Sumter was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 49-13 loss at the hands of the Vanguard Knights. The Raiders were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 25-3.

It was another big night for Sanaria Gunsby, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards for Vanguard. Gunsby has been hot recently, having also posted four or more steals the last three times she's played. Kenaria Dowdy was another key player, putting up six points and 12 rebounds.

South Sumter's defeat dropped their record down to 2-18. As for Vanguard, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-7.

South Sumter wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 44-30 victory against Tavares on the 30th. As for Vanguard, they are taking a road trip to take on Hawthorne at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Hawthorne's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while Vanguard has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
