Softball Game Preview: Garfield Bulldogs vs. Sedro-Woolley Cubs

The Garfield Bulldogs will square off against the Sedro-Woolley Cubs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Garfield sitting on four straight wins and Sedro-Woolley on 21.

Garfield is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They skirted past Stanwood 5-4.

Sammy Breckenridge spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jordana King was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Joie Cunningham, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Sedro-Woolley faced Monroe in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Cubs' pitchers stepped up to hand the Bearcats a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Cubs, who have now won 20 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Sedro-Woolley's victory was their 23rd straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.9 runs this season. As for Garfield, their victory bumped their record up to 24-6.

Garfield might still be hurting after the 10-3 loss they got from Sedro-Woolley in their previous matchup on May 3rd. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
