Softball Recap: West Central Comes Up Short

If West Central was riding high fresh off their 18-4 takedown of Kouts on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Trojans fell just short of the North Newton Spartans by a score of 13-12 on Friday. The Trojans haven't had much luck with the Spartans recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Tenley Bollinger and Kyra Leman did some serious damage despite the final result: Bollinger went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Leman went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Cassidy Lattimore, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

West Central's defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for North Newton, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-8 record this season.

West Central and North Newton are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Trojans will take on South Newton at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. As for North Newton, they will face off against Caston at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Comets have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season.
