Holy Family has gone a perfect 3-0 against Kennedy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Tigers will challenge the Commanders at 11:00 a.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Holy Family put up the most points they have all season on Thursday. They really took it to Littleton for the full four quarters, racking up a 67-0 win. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Lions are ranked 174th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Holy Family, racking up 15 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Mekhi White, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Holy Family didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Rocco Bertagnolli and Logan Welch. Welch got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, while Kennedy put up plenty of points on Saturday, the same can't be said for Hinkley. The Commanders simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Thunder 70-0. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Commanders had established a 57-point advantage.
Holy Family better keep an eye on Matthew Salazar. He was instrumental in Kennedy's win, rushing for 86 yards and three TDs. Those 86 rushing yards gave Salazar a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcelis Allen, who threw for 114 yards and one touchdown while completing 71.4% of his passes.
Kennedy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 222 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
One reason for the win was Kennedy's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as five different players picked up one apiece.
Holy Family's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.4 points over those games. As for Kennedy, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Saturday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Holy Family has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 153.2 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Kennedy, though, as they've been averaging only 95.5 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for Holy Family against Kennedy in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 49-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
