Basketball Game Preview: Maconaquah Braves vs. Wabash Apaches

The Maconaquah Braves will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on the Wabash Apaches at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Maconaquah will be strutting in after a win while Wabash will be coming in after a loss.

Maconaquah is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against North Miami. Maconaquah was the clear victor by a 76-51 margin over North Miami on Friday. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 51-24.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Maconaquah to victory, but perhaps none more so than AJ Kelly, who went 12 for 24 on his way to 26 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Kelly's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Ball, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 boards.

Meanwhile, Wabash was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell to North Miami 48-44. While the Apaches didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Warriors 16-9 in the first quarter.

Maconaquah will need focus on slowing down Jarrett McWhirt, one of several Wabash players who made an impact when they last played. He went 5 of 11 on his way to 14 points along with six boards and three steals. McWhirt has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Long, who posted nine points.
