Wilmington is 8-2 against Coal City since September of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wildcats will welcome the Coalers at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Coal City will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Wilmington extended their winning streak to seven on Friday. The Wildcats breezed past Reed-Custer to the tune of 54-6. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Comets are ranked 265th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Coal City). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Herscher 56-7. The victory continues a trend for the Coalers in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won seven in a row.

Wilmington's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Coal City, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 7-1.

Wilmington was able to grind out a solid win over Coal City in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, winning 21-14. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Coalers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
