Basketball Recap: Antioch Now 10-1 over Last 11 Games

Antioch won the last time they faced Overton and things went their way on Friday too. The Antioch Bears snuck past the Overton Bobcats with a 50-46 win. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while the Bobcats are ranked 220th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Antioch was led to victory by Giancarlo Martinez and Chris Aveary. Martinez went 5-for-8 to rack up 11 points and seven boards, while Aveary posted five points along with six rebounds and five steals. The dominant performance also gave Aveary a new career-high in blocks (two). Jaiden Claybrook was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to eight assists and seven boards.

When it comes to explaining why Overton lost, don't look at William Livingston. Despite the final result, he went 7-for-13 on his way to 18 points and three steals. The match was Livingston's third in a row with at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Wesley Howard, who scored two points along with eight rebounds and seven assists.

Antioch is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. As for Overton, they now have a losing record of 11-12.

Looking ahead, Antioch will take on Hillsboro at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Hillsboro has won nine straight at home, while Antioch won six straight on the road), something that'll have to change. Overton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
