Baseball Recap: Saugus Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Birmingham, Saugus was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Ventura Cougars a 2-0 shutout. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Centurions also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2025.

Chase Kline tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over 4.1 innings pitched. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025.

At the plate, Saugus' win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was JD Lawless, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

The victory got Saugus back to even at 1-1. As for Ventura, their record is now 0-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Saugus will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Thousand Oaks at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Ventura, they will be taking part in a tournament against Birmingham at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
