Baseball Game Preview: Alamo Heights Mules vs. Cornerstone Christian Warriors

The Alamo Heights Mules will venture away from home to challenge the Cornerstone Christian Warriors at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Alamo Heights not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 6th. They blew past Southwest 12-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mules.

Yul Salaburu and Luke Spielhagen were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Salaburu tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Spielhagen pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Alamo Heights is 3-1 when Spielhagen allowsone or fewer hits, but 3-10-1 otherwise. At bat, Salaburu went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double, while Spielhagen scored five runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most RBI Salaburu has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Alamo Heights let Blake Bader and Watson Laswell run wild. Bader scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Laswell scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Bader is becoming a predictor of Alamo Heights' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1-1 (and 2-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Albert Colglazier, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Alamo Heights was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cornerstone Christian, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They put the hurt on FEAST HomeSchool with a sharp 13-1 victory on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Cornerstone Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. Alamo Heights' record is now 6-11-1.
