Game recap

NEW IBERIA, La. - Highland Baptist Christian (New Iberia, La.) captured the lead in the fourth quarter and held on for a 10-7 victory over Ascension Episcopal (Lafayette, La.) on Saturday. The Bears took the lead for good when Gary Roberts ran for a touchdown.

After nabbing the lead on a passing touchdown, Ascension Episcopal went into halftime with a 7-3 lead. The Bears scored the winning points with a touchdown run by Roberts that came in the fourth quarter.

Despite scoring zero points in the third, Highland Baptist Christian still trailed by four points going into the fourth quarter. But seven points in the fourth helped HBC pull out the victory.

Ascension Episcopal's only touchdown came on a 12-yard pass in the first quarter.

The New Iberia school entered the contest giving up 28.3 points per game this year.

The win was a nice bounce back for the Bears, who lost to Hanson Memorial last week, 56-38. The defeat comes as a step back for Ascension Episcopal, which notched a 55-6 victory over Gueydan in its previous outing. The victory snapped Highland Baptist Christian's two-game losing streak.

Highland Baptist Christian (6-2) will play a 1A District 7 game against Lafayette Christian Academy next week, while Ascension Episcopal (5-4) will take on Vermilion Catholic also in a 1A District 7 game.
