Softball Recap: Spanish Springs Takes Down Ranked Carson

Spanish Springs faced Carson in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Cougars were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Senators. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Hannah Fitzpatrick tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March.

On the hitting side, Joey Jacobs and Maddy Marshall did most of the damage at the plate: Jacobs went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Marshall went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two runs gave Jacobs a new career-high. Madison Rogers was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

Spanish Springs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carson only posted an OBP of .250.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Spanish Springs, bringing their record up to 17-7-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Carson, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-10-1.
