Softball Recap: Central A & M Raiders vs. Meridian Hawks

It was a good run, but Central A & M unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 4-0 to the Meridian Hawks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Central A & M of the 11-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture last Monday.

Gwyn Hardimon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in five consecutive pitching appearances.

On Meridian's side, Ashley Schelling was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Schelling was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Shelby Renfro was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.

Central A & M's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Meridian, they pushed their record up to 11-4 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central A & M will take on Warrensburg-Latham at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Warrensburg-Latham knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with flashy run totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Central A & M likes a good challenge. As for Meridian, they are on the road again on Monday to play Clinton at 4:30 p.m.
