Football Recap: Plainview Skates Past Elkhorn Valley with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Plainview). They blew past the Elkhorn Valley Falcons 63-20 on Friday. With the Pirates ahead 56-20 at the half, the game was all but over already.

While passing duties were split, you can't argue with the impact Gage Walton and Kobe Maertins both made on the matchup. Walton gained 190 total yards and six touchdowns while Maertins rushed for 61 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Walton got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 65 yards.

Plainview's run defense was locked in: Elkhorn Valley could only muster 0.7 yards per carry. While four picked up at least three total tackles, Walton stood above the rest. He rushed for 66 yards and five scores, and also picked up 90 receiving yards and one TD. Plainview didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.3.

Elkhorn Valley lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Korbin Werner, who picked up 66 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Logan Black, who picked up 98 receiving yards and one TD.

Plainview's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Elkhorn Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Looking ahead, Plainview will head out to face off against Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Elkhorn Valley, they will host Laurel-Concord-Coleridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bears will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
