Volleyball Recap: Newark Memorial Takes a Loss

Newark Memorial was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 3-1 to the Irvington Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in March.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 21-25, 25-17, 25-23.

Urfan Stanizai paced Newark Memorial's offense, picking up 11 kills. Stanizai got some help from Hamid Stanizai and his 26 assists. Finally, Miguel Medrano kept Newark Memorial's defense grounded, leading the team with five blocks.

Newark Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Irvington, their win bumped their record up to 10-7.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Newark Memorial will square off against rival American at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Irvington is set to challenge their familiar foe Washington at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
