Baseball Game Preview: Hanford West Huskies vs. Selma Bears

The Hanford West Huskies will head out on the road to square off against the Selma Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

On Friday, Hanford West didn't have quite enough to beat Reedley and fell 3-1.

Selma came out on top against Kingsburg on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Bears walked away with a 5-2 win over the Vikings.

Jovani Tovar made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

Tovar wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Matheo Roque, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Roque has posted since back in May of 2024. Braden Francis was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.

Selma pushed their record up to 13-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Hanford West, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-11 record this season.

Hanford West suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Selma in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
