Chargers extend long win streak after taking commanding 65-14 lead at halftime.
No. 24
Corner Canyon (Draper) is eight wins away from breaking the Utah state record for consecutive wins after opening the 2021 high school football season Friday night with a 72-21 thumping of
Farmington, giving the program its 41st straight victory. The Chargers are chasing Duchesne's record of 48 straight wins from 2010-14.
USC-bound quarterback
Devin Brown, a 6-foot-3 senior, had a nearly flawless debut for the Chargers, throwing for eight touchdowns in the first half. The Arizona transfer did not play a snap in the second half and finished the night completing 18-of-22 passes for 451 yards.
Brown's eight touchdown passes in a single game ties him with Alex Hart (Jordan), Austin Kafentzis (Jordan) and Dane Leituala (Taylorsville) for the third most in state history. Former Lehi standout Cammon Cooper owns the record with 10 while Maddux Madsen of American Fork threw for nine in a game last season.
Corner Canyon scored a touchdown every time it touched the ball in the first quarter. Brown connected with
Cody Hagen and
Jett Meine for two scores apiece while the defense added a safety to head into the second quarter with a 30-0 lead.

Brown threw for four more TD passes in the second quarter and the three-time defending state champs went into halftime up 65-14. He broke Jaxson Dart's previous school record of seven touchdown passes in a game he set last season. Dart went on to be named the
2020 MaxPreps National Player of the Year and is now at USC battling for the backup quarterback position.
Preseason MaxPreps All-America linebacker
Harrison Taggart led the way on defense, picking off a pass.
Zach Hale added a 20-yard pick-six in the first half.
Isaac Wilson, the younger brother of New York Jets signal caller Zach Wilson, started the second half and threw his first varsity touchdown pass on the first drive. He found Hagen from 45 yards out for his fourth touchdown reception of the night.

The 5-11, 170-pound sophomore quarterback has already landed offers from BYU, Oregon and San Jose State.
Corner Canyon head coach Eric Kjar improved to 52-1 since taking over before the 2017 season and is going for his fourth consecutive state title. The Chargers won the 5A crown in 2018 and 6A in each of the past two seasons.
Up next for Corner Canyon is East (Salt Lake City) on Aug. 21. They also have notable games scheduled against Bingham (South Jordan) on Aug. 27, at American Fork on Sept. 17, Skyridge (Lehi) on Sept. 24 and Lone Peak on Oct. 7.
