Alaysia Haney was incredible, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Adrianna McDonald, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Merrillville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.7 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 11.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Chesterton's offense. They came up short against Munster on Monday, falling 13-0. The Trojans have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Merrillville's win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-21. As for Chesterton, they now have a losing record of 10-11.
Merrillville's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Pirates have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Chesterton, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Merrillville continue to outrun the ball?
