Basketball Recap: Nicholas County Takes a Loss

Nicholas County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a blow against the Hoover Huskies, falling 88-51. While losing is never fun, the Grizzlies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while the Huskies are ranked 29th).

Despite the loss, Nicholas County still got an impressive performance from Trey Stump, who posted 20 points. Another player making a difference was Ira Mylott, who had ten points.

Hoover's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Riley Johnson, who earned 20 points. That's the most points Johnson has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Dane Hatfield, who put up 24 points.

Nicholas County's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Hoover, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-2.

Nicholas County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 54-41 win against Roane County on the 18th. As for Hoover, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 59-44 loss against Nitro on the 18th.
