Basketball Recap: Lana Shirley's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Dobson over Mesa

Dobson lost against Mesa back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Dobson Mustangs took a 47-33 bruising from the Mesa Jackrabbits.

Dobson's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lana Shirley, who went 5-for-11 on her way to 10 points. Shirley is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games she's played. Aamani Nolletti was another key player, putting up six points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mesa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tilley Cummard, who posted seven points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Marlee Straub, who went 5-for-8 en route to 10 points.

Dobson has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 14 matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season. As for Mesa, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-10.

Dobson has already played their next contest, a 48-26 win against Westwood on the 7th. As for Mesa, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 48-24 victory against Skyline on the 7th.
