Baseball Recap: Somerset Academy Comes Up Short

If Somerset Academy was feeling good fresh off their 6-0 takedown of Hialeah last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Panthers fell just short of the Coral Gables Cavaliers by a score of 4-3 on Monday. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cavaliers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Julio Cardoso was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Jon Mora was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. Christian Cordero was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Somerset Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-14 record this season. As for Coral Gables, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-11-1.

Coming up, Somerset Academy will challenge Nova at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Coral Gables, they will square off against Hialeah at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
