Odem came tearing into Monday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the George West Longhorns 8-6. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 6-4 victory two weeks ago.

Payton Simmons was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Simmons was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eric Swisher, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

Odem's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-7. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.67 runs across that stretch. As for George West, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-17-2 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Odem will host West Oso at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Owls' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bears have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for George West, they will be playing at home against Mathis at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
