Basketball Recap: Waterville's Loss Ends 16-Game Winning Streak at Home

Waterville entered their matchup against Cooperstown on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Waterville Indians lost 84-61 to the Cooperstown Hawkeyes. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 218th, while the Hawkeyes are ranked 67th).

It was another big night for Miles Nelen, who went 7 of 17 on his way to 21 points and seven assists for Cooperstown. The contest was Nelen's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Brody Murdock was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Waterville's defeat ended a 16-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-4. As for Cooperstown, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 17-0.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waterville has already played their next game (against Sauquoit Valley), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Cooperstown will welcome Westmoreland at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
