League recap: League lead hangs in balance for North, South this week

Pioneer league recap: 4/3/13

First place in Pioneer standings is up for grabs this week, as South sits just 1 game back of North.

The Spartans' Matt Mogollon was the best pitcher in the league this week. He won one game and retired five batters.

Centennial's pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing one hit and two walks to lead the league in both categories.

11 batters hit over .400 this week. Leading the pack was Lars Nootbaar, who hit .733 by going 11-for-15.

The week's strikeout crown belonged to Dean Abramson, who turned in six Ks for El Segundo. With 13 strikeouts this year so far, he ranks eighth in the league.



Wilem Mostert threw a shutout as he led the Eagles to victory over St. John Bosco, 1-0, on Tuesday. He struck out four, allowing five hits.

Mike Esparza was an RBI machine on Saturday, as he knocked in four runs during South's 15-0 win over Palisades. He went 3-for-3 and scored one run.
