Basketball Game Preview: Hydaburg Warriors vs. Klawock Chieftains

Hydaburg hasn't had much luck against Klawock recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Hydaburg Warriors will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against the Klawock Chieftains.

Hydaburg is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 16th straight game dating back to last season last Monday. They were dealt a 55-17 loss at the hands of Skagway.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Klawock's strategy against Skagway on Wednesday. Klawock took down Skagway 39-22. The matchup marked the Chieftains' most dominant victory of the season.

Hydaburg better keep an eye on Kaiya Marvin. She was instrumental in Klawock's win, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Marvin has become a key player for Klawock: the team is 4-2 when she posts at least eight boards, but 2-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Taylor White, who posted nine points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Klawock smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Klawock's win bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Hydaburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Hydaburg took a serious blow against Klawock when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 51-18. Can Hydaburg avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
