Softball Recap: Mississinawa Valley Has No Trouble Against Union City

Mississinawa Valley made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Union City, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Blackhawks blew past the Indians 11-3 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Blackhawks, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.

Ella Godfrey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on two hits and racked up 18 Ks. Those 18 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Mississinawa Valley let Gentry Newbauer and Cora Hoggatt run wild. Newbauer scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Hoggatt scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Carden Fritz also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Mississinawa Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Mississinawa Valley has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. As for Union City, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Coming up, Mississinawa Valley will welcome Newton Local at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Union City, they will face off against Hagerstown at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Indians will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.
