Softball Game Preview: Santa Teresa Saints vs. Gilroy Mustangs

Santa Teresa is 1-6 against Gilroy since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Santa Teresa will square off against Gilroy at 4:00 p.m.

Santa Teresa's tournament run continued when they took on Hollister on Saturday. Santa Teresa fell just short of Hollister by a score of 5-3.

Santa Teresa saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Savanna Herbst, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Olivia Montes was another, scoring two runs and stealing a base.

Meanwhile, Gilroy waltzed into their game on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. Considering the Mustangs have won six matchups by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Ariela Yslava made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Dani Wilson was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jennie Hernandez, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Gilroy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Gilroy pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Santa Teresa, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Santa Teresa might still be hurting after the 11-0 loss they got from Gilroy in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can Santa Teresa avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
