The Cedar Valley Aviators will venture away from home to take on the Corner Canyon Chargers at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Cedar Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Cedar Valley will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Timpview on Thursday. Cedar Valley put the hurt on Timpview with a sharp 19-2 win. The Aviators haven't had any issues with the Thunderbirds recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Centry Lundberg made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last seven contests.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makaylie Lundberg, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Chloee Lewis also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.
Meanwhile, Corner Canyon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 29-4 to Farmington.
Hailey Sundquist made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Tori Barrett was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Corner Canyon's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Cedar Valley, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cedar Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .421. However, it's not like Corner Canyon struggles in that department as they've averaged .341. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
