A feisty cat fight will be fought as Trinity Christian Academy Lions duke it out with Bolivar Central Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Having struggled with five losses in a row dating back to last season, Trinity Christian Academy turned things around against Middleton on Monday. Everything went their way against the Tigers as they made off with a 17-1 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Lions considering their two-run performance the match before.
Haley Lewis made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-low in hits. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madey Putman, who scored five runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Hidrogo, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Bolivar Central had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They put the hurt on Jackson North Side with a sharp 18-4 win. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Like Trinity Christian Academy, Bolivar Central also got a great game from a two-way player: Leah Smith. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Mollie Nuckolls and Haley Burns did most of the damage at the plate: Nuckolls went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs, while Burns scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-5. Addyson Smith was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-4.
Bolivar Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jackson North Side only posted an OBP of .308.
Trinity Christian Academy's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Bolivar Central, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Trinity Christian Academy took their win against Bolivar Central when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-5. Will Trinity Christian Academy repeat their success, or does Bolivar Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
