Basketball Recap: Troy Jorgensen's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Queensbury over Amsterdam

Queensbury lost against Amsterdam back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Queensbury Spartans fell 71-60 to the Amsterdam Rams. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while the Rams are ranked 80th).

Queensbury lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Troy Jorgensen, who went 10 of 21 on his way to 32 points. The matchup was Jorgensen's fifth in a row with at least 16 points. Mark Huffaker was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten boards.

Amsterdam's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but CJ Miller led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and 16 rebounds. Miller has been hot, having posted 11 or more boards the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jude Flint, who went 5 for 10 en route to 14 points and six rebounds.

Queensbury's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Amsterdam, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Queensbury will host Glens Falls at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Glens Falls will roll in looking for their 19th straight victory, something Queensbury surely won't give up without a fight. As for Amsterdam, they will be playing at home against Scotia-Glenville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
