Baseball Recap: Federal Way Comes Up Short

Federal Way extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 9-9 in the process. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Enumclaw Hornets. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly three runs.

Thoma Holden was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Federal Way is 2-1 when Holden posts two or more stolen bases, but 7-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Orlando Young, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

As for Enumclaw, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-4. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

On Enumclaw's side, Carter Grant looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Grant has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cole Chiechi, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Drew Francis was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coming up, Federal Way will square off against Mt. Rainier at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Rams' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Enumclaw does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
