Baseball Recap: Rancho Verde's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

If Rancho Verde was riding high fresh off their 16-6 takedown of Perris on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mustangs fell just short of the Tahquitz Titans by a score of 8-7 on Friday. The Mustangs' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Rancho Verde got a good showing from Markus Villalvazo, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, Abraham Manzo made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Jacob Cabral also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Rancho Verde's loss dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Tahquitz, their record is now 11-4.

Rancho Verde and Tahquitz should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Mustangs (ranked 368th) will meet Vista del Lago (ranked 905th) at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Tahquitz will challenge Moreno Valley at 3:15 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (207 vs. 425). The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Titans 2.7, the Vikings 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
