Coastal Academy had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.4 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 33-28 W against the La Jolla Country Day Torreys.
Coastal Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jesse Moyano led the charge by rushing for 168 yards and two scores while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Those 168 rushing yards gave Moyano a new career-high. Another signal caller making a difference was Zac Garland, who threw for 126 yards and a pair of TDs.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Coastal Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 214 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as La Jolla Country Day only rushed for 95.
Several Torreys players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jett Astephen, who threw for 281 yards and three touchdowns. Quentin Cesaire also helped out as he racked up 108 receiving yards.
Coastal Academy's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for La Jolla Country Day, they dropped their record down to 4-6 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
