Football Recap: Palmetto Starts Season with Victory at Home

Palmetto gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They blew past the Newsome Wolves 42-20. The Tigers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wolves, too.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Palmetto to victory, but perhaps none more so than Keyron Jones, who rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns. Another passer making a difference was Matthew Hennesey, who threw for 186 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 88.2% of his passes.

Palmetto's run defense was locked in: Newsome could only muster 3.3 yards per carry. The team can thank Paul Moore for the heroic effort on defense: he. Palmetto didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.1.

Although Newsome took the loss, they still got scores from Trey Gaffney, Ryan Moran, and Jeremy Tolliver Jr.

Newsome's loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Palmetto will head out to square off against Riverview Sarasota at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Newsome, they will venture away from home to take on East Bay at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
