Recap: Trinidad Miners vs. Center Vikings

The Trinidad Miners fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Center Vikings on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Vikings 46-41. Trinidad just can't catch a break and has now endured five losses in a row.

Trinidad lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Danica Shipley, who scored 17 points along with six steals. Shipley is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Maes, who scored 11 points along with five steals.

Even though they lost, Trinidad were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Center only posted four assists.

It was another big night for Alicia Rios, who scored 17 points along with four steals for Center. Rios has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Emiliana Valdez, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.

Trinidad has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season. As for Center, they pushed their record up to 9-6 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Custer County the next time they take the court. Center will host Custer County at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, while Trinidad will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
