Softball Recap: Mescalero Apache Takes a Loss

Mescalero Apache extended their losing streak to 12 on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-15. They came up short against the Mesilla Valley Christian School SonBlazers, falling 24-2. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the SonBlazers this season, with their most recent loss being a 17-1 defeat on Thursday.

As for Mesilla Valley Christian School, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-8. Considering they have won nine matchups by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Mesilla Valley Christian School's part, Maren Fiske made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Fiske was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Stailey Faust, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Margaret Hurd, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Mescalero Apache will challenge rival Lordsburg at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Mesilla Valley Christian School is set to face off against their familiar foe Capitan at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
