Basketball Recap: Danville Falls Short of West Morgan in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Danville can now relate to. They fell just short of the West Morgan Rebels by a score of 71-68 on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 332nd, while the Rebels are ranked 153rd).

Danville's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ben Ellenburg, who went 7 of 17 en route to 22 points and six boards. Those 22 points gave Ellenburg a new career-high. Tristyn Barrett was another key player, going 6 for 13 on his way to 15 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Danville dropped their record down to 10-19 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for West Morgan, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-8.

Danville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for West Morgan, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-51 victory against Good Hope on the 4th.
