Recap: Tohatchi Cougars vs. Newcomb Skyhawks
Make it ten blowout wins for the Tohatchi Cougars this season. They took their contest on the road on Thursday with ease, bagging a 76-45 win over Newcomb. With Tohatchi ahead 41-20 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Tohatchi was led to victory by Josh Dawes and Talan Long. Dawes scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Long dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Dawes has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Micah Gruber, who scored ten points.
Newcomb's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Darium Peshlakai, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. Peshlakai has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Savier Thomas was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
The victory was the third in a row for Tohatchi, bringing their record for this year to 11-5. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 34 points. As for Newcomb, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-6.
Tohatchi will take on the Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Wingate is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak. As for Newcomb, they will head out on the road to square off against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Crownpoint is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
