The Lake Wales Highlanders will challenge the Lake Gibson Braves at 7:00 p.m. Lake Wales is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.6 points per game this season.
Last Thursday, Lake Wales lost to Haines City at home by a 46-28 margin. The Highlanders were down 35-15 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite their loss, Lake Wales saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Sarah Senior, who posted two points in addition to ten blocks and eight boards, was perhaps the best of all. With that strong performance, Senior is now averaging an impressive 2.5 blocks per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Destiny Witherspoon, who put up 16 points.
Meanwhile, Lake Gibson was not able to break out of their rough patch back in December of 2024 as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by Mulberry and fell 71-31. While losing is never fun, the Braves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 411th, while the Panthers are ranked 142nd).
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Jakhia Willis and Lorianys Castanon Cruz. Castanon Cruz had a great game and posted 41 points. Meanwhile, Willis was balling out in the loss, putting up 17 points along with six assists and five boards.
Lake Wales' loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Lake Gibson, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Lake Wales hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 56.6 points per game. It's a different story for Lake Gibson, though, as they've been averaging only 31.9 points. The only thing between Lake Wales and another offensive beatdown is Lake Gibson. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Everything came up roses for Lake Wales against Lake Gibson in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 91-10 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lake Wales since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
