Softball Recap: Southwestern Sets Scoring Season-High Against Boscobel

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southwestern). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Boscobel Bulldogs a 17-0 shutout on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wildcats considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Hailey Brant made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Brant was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Morgan Muller was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Megan Roepsch, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Southwestern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Southwestern's victory bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Boscobel, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Southwestern and Boscobel could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. The Wildcats will take on Iowa-Grant at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (257 vs. 71). Meanwhile, Boscobel (ranked 305th) will meet River Ridge (ranked 127th) at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
