Baseball Recap: Greencastle Gets the Win

Greencastle proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by seven) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Cascade Cadets 7-6. For the Tiger Cubs, this counts as revenge for the 6-4 win the Cadets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Sam Gooch made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Greencastle is undefeated when Gooch posts two or more runs, but 1-2 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashton Dayhuff, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Greencastle is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Cascade, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greencastle will head out to face off against Linton-Stockton at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Cascade, they will venture away from home to square off against Clinton Prairie at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
