Westfield is 9-1 against Frewsburg since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wolverines will square off against the Bears at 5:00 p.m. Westfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Westfield lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Clymer/Sherman, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's contest. The Wolverines put the hurt on the Wolves with a sharp 8-2 win on Wednesday.
Eva Gnadzinski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Mackenzie Schumaker was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one triple. Avery Smith was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Frewsburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Silver Creek.
Teagan Nazario put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and five unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Nazario was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Presleigh Stelmack and Mya Carmen stepped up to the plate in a big way. Stelmack went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run, while Carmen went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Mickey Hartley, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Westfield has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Frewsburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-12.
Westfield was able to grind out a solid win over Frewsburg in their previous matchup back in April, winning 9-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
