Woods Cross and Roy are an even 3-3 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Woods Cross Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Roy Royals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Woods Cross focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Wednesday.
Last Wednesday, Woods Cross beat Viewmont 54-42. That 12 point margin sets a new team best for Woods Cross this season.
Woods Cross got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Hunter Jackson out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Jackson hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Ben Smith-mecham was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Roy can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They came out on top against Clearfield by a score of 65-53.
Roy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bronson Belnap, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten assists. Another player making a difference was Corben Schuffenhauer, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Woods Cross is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-15 record this season. As for Roy, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.
Friday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Woods Cross have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 41.3% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Roy struggles in that department as they've made 40.8% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Woods Cross came up short against Roy in their previous meeting back in January, falling 55-51. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Belnap, who scored 21 points along with five steals. Now that Woods Cross knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
