Oak Hill is 1-7 against Liberty since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Red Devils will head out to square off against the Raiders at 6:00 p.m. Oak Hill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Oak Hill is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Shady Spring, falling 12-1.
Mary Butcher spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered 12 runs (all of which were unearned) on 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Oak Hill saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Amy Hollandsworth, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Liberty, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over Summers County on Tuesday. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
Maddie Toler made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Toler was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Liberty got a massive performance out of Alyssa Scarbro, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave Scarbro a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Stella Brown, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
Liberty lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Liberty's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Oak Hill, their loss dropped their record down to 12-10.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Oak Hill has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .445. However, it's not like Liberty struggles in that department as they've averaged .456. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Oak Hill might still be hurting after the 14-2 defeat they got from Liberty in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
