Preview: Mater Academy Charter Lions vs. Doral Academy Firebirds
Mater Academy Charter is 8-2 against Doral Academy since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Mater Academy Charter Lions' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Doral Academy Firebirds at 7:30 p.m. on December 18th. Hopefully Mater Academy Charter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Mater Academy Charter beat Archbishop Carroll 56-48.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mater Academy Charter to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sebastian Tello, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Davis, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, Doral Academy's 20-7 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They had to suffer through a rough 66-29 loss at the hands of Mater Lakes Academy. While losing is never fun, Doral Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 370th, while Mater Lakes Academy is ranked 52nd).
Mater Academy Charter is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Doral Academy, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Mater Academy Charter skirted past Doral Academy 55-53 in their previous meeting back in February of 2021. Will Mater Academy Charter repeat their success, or does Doral Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
